Judge Who Beat Daughter Says He Did Nothing Wrong

A Texas judge who was caught on video beating his daughter says he was simply disciplining his then 17-year-old.

"In my mind, I haven't done anything wrong other than discipline my child after she was caught stealing," Judge William Adams told a Corpus Christi television station. "And I did lose my temper, but I've since apologized."

The video of Adams, 51, appeared on the Internet after the daughter, Hillary Adams, uploaded it.

Hillary Adams, now 23, told the Associated Press that she has since had mixed feelings about making the video public.

"I'm experiencing some regret,” she told the AP, “because I just pulled the covers off my own father's misbehavior after so many people thought he was such a good person … But so many people are also telling me I did the right thing."

Adams added, however, that she has received an outpouring of support since uploading the video.

The video shows William Adams lashing his daughter 17 times with a belt while scolding her and at one point threatening to beat her into submission.

The younger Adams told NBC’s Today Show that the lashing was not unusual, but “happened regularly for a period of time.”

As a result of the video, the police in Aransas County, Texas, have started an investigation to determine if Judge Adams was guilty of any wrongdoing.

  1. We often hear from those who fight to uphold this practice for those under the age of 18 (even to the blaming of the social maladies of the day on a supposed “lack” of it), but we rarely, if ever, find advocates for the return of corporal punishment to the general adult community, college campuses, inmate population, or military. Why is that?

Ask ten unyielding proponents of child/adolescent/teenage-only “spanking” about the “right” way to do it, and what would be abusive, indecent, or obscene, and you will get ten different answers.

These proponents should consider making their own video-recording of the “right way” to do it.

  2. Nothing wrong what he did. Yes sometimes as parents we do go over board but we don’t do it in the intention of abuse we expect the best for our children. Some people need to see this kids now and how they act towards parents and there elders, seems like now adays there is no respect. Also what happened to the paddle in school we need that back. Some kids need discipline and most of the time timeout doesn’t work.so im all for a whooping.

  3. I have to disagree w/ what seems to be the majority. I was raised by a loving father who would use a belt just like this father did, as was the rest of my family. He did nothing wrong, but by the looks of this girl she probably needed a few more whoopings. She is being so disrepectful. It is obvious she has no common sense, as is the majority of this world.

    • you obviously have normalised this, one or two lashings to tell her she was wrong i still don’t agree with but 17 times by a man with exceptional strength, he has issues and so do you if you believe she needed more she wouldn’t turn over and get more because she was frightened and he probably would have beat her harder i feel sooooo sick !!

  4. this man is sick and sadistic as well as a child batterer.
he demonstrates a level of rage that is disgusting.
He is a pathetic and disgusting piece of white trash.
I believe that he MUST be removed from the bench.

  5. This is a disgrace.. What he did was horrible and should have never of happened like that. He is a court of the law.. He would of sent someone else to jail for that.. This young lady needs to be with someone who loves and and that will protect her not hurt her.. I will keep up with this one. I will go to his front door and protest everyday if she has to stay in that house with him and he keeps his job.. I will be following this with everyone else.. What a shame.. Parents are our Childrens worst fears.. Horribe..

  6. This horrible excuse for a “father” should be charged with abuse and stripped of any position he held as a judge. Can you imagine going before him with family issues? That poor girl will need extensive therapy and she should cut all ties with both parents. What kind of mom would stand and watch that? A very sick one.
