U.S. to Sue New York over Rikers Conditions

The U.S. plans to sue New York City over conditions for adolescents at Rikers Island, according to a court filing today.

The filing comes four months after the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Southern District of New York reported that Rikers allowed excessive force by officers, overuse of solitary confinement and ignored assaults by officers.

The Office asked to join an existing class-action lawsuit over brutality at Rikers.
