Dropping Imprisonment Rate Not Linked to Lower Crime, Pew Analysis Says

The national prison rate is at its lowest since 1997, according to an analysis by The Pew Charitable Trusts. This is apparently not correlated with the decrease in crime, according to date from the federal Bureau of Justice Statistics.

Imprisonment is down 11 percent from its 2008 peak and the combined national violent and property crime rate dropped 23 percent since 2008.
