February 3, 2011 - Kell High School in Marietta, Ga will be hosting a forum with J. Tom Morgan, author of IGNORANCE IS NO DEFENSE – A Teenager’s Guide to Georgia Law at 7 P.M.  Morgan will talk about teenager's rights under the law and criminal law.

February 7, 2011 - Georgia DBHDD Training—Critical Issues Facing Special Needs and At-Risk Children and Youth: 8th Professional Seminar Series. This symposium will be focused on Substance Abuse. More details to come!

February 7-11, 2011 - Forensic Interviewing of Children in Huntsville, AL. Topics covered will include but not limited to forensic questioning, interview strategies and interviewing tools.

February 9 - 14 , 2011 - American Bar Association Midyear Meeting in Atlanta. Topics target juvenile justice issues, including restorative justice, home monitoring alternatives to detention, and improvements to the system that are keeping kids out of court.  For registration and details click here

February 11, 2011 - The ABA Criminal Justice Section presents the Bringing Youth Justice to Georgia discussion panel. This is a Juvenile Justice Panel Discussion where the topic will be a discussion about the status of the re-write of the juvenile code legislation and what stakeholders and attorney volunteers are doing to move the bill forward. March 7, 2011 - This Lesbian, Bi-Sexual, Gay and Trans-gendered Youth seminar is an all day symposium offered by Georgia DBHDD Training—Critical Issues Facing Special Needs and At-Risk Children and Youth: 8th Professional Seminar Series. Topics to be covered will be mental health resources, suicide prevention and strength resources, and legal issues facing LGBT youth.

March 14-18, 2011The Office for Victims of Crime is holding a conference for victim assistance professionals. The National Victim Assistance Academy. The event will offer education and skill-based classroom training for those who assist victims and survivors of crime in the United States. This event will be held in Albuquerque, New Mexico. The deadline to register for this event is February 25, 2011.

March 27-30, 2011 - National Conference on Juvenile and Family Law in Reno, Nevada. This annual conference will provide opportunities for courts and communities to improve outcomes for children, youth, families and victims. Challenges faced by many children such as substance abuse, delinquency, and mental health will be addressed.

March 29 - 31, 2011 - The Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design Training of Trainers in Rochester, NH is built around the principle that proper design and effective use of buildings and public spaces in neighborhoods can lead to a reduction in fear and incidence of crime while improving the quality of life.

April 11-15, 2011 - Forensic Interviewing of Children in Huntsville, AL. Topics covered will include but not limited to forensic questioning, interview strategies and interviewing tools.

April 18-21, 2011- Unsafe Havens II: Prosecuting On-line Crimes Against Children in Columbia, South Carolina. This event will cover specific topics including but not limited too evidentiary Issues, Presenting technological and graphic evidence, and human trafficking.

May 2011

May 25-27, 2011- The Sixth National Sexual Assault Response Team (SART) Training Conference, titled SART: Together We Can! will be held in Austin, Texas. This conference will help SART members to gain knowledge and motivation to assess the effectiveness of their current efforts. This will also examine ways to widen “the circle of victims” that they serve and issues they address. Join medical personnel, victim advocates, law enforcement personnel, prosecutors, crime lab personnel and others involved in community response to this crime as they seek to build their community’s capacity to: Promote health and healing of victims; hold offenders accountable for their crimes; and realize the hope of preventing further sexual violence.

June 2011

June 7 - 10, 2011  The 2011 National Gang Symposium, sponsored by the Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention (OJJDP) and the Bureau of Justice Assistance (BJA), will take place on June 7–10, 2011, in Orlando, Florida.
