DeKalb RYDC Escapee Back In Custody

McCloud

The 16-year-old murder suspect who escaped from the DeKalb County Regional Youth Detention Center over the weekend is back in custody.

Dewayne McCloud reportedly failed to meet a security check around 5:30 p.m. Saturday. Authorities locked down the facility, but could not locate him inside. Several law enforcement agencies, including the DeKalb County sheriff's office and police department, searched for McCloud for hours in the surrounding area, but the effort turned up nothing. At one point even a K9 unit was brought in to track McCloud to no avail.

Georgia Department of Juvenile Justice Scheree Moore has confirmed that the Atlanta-Metro Fugitive squad captured McCloud in the Atlanta area around 12:30 p.m. Sunday.

The teen is accused of serving as a “lookout” in the January robbery and murder of 78-year-old John Green. Police say McCloud’s accomplice, 16-year-old Trevonte Edwards, robbed and shot Green to death as he left a Savannah convenience store. 18-year-old Darrell Golden was also charged in the case.
