Down And Dirty: Gardening Grants

The Youth Garden Grant Program (YGGP), supported by The Home Depot Garden Club, will award more than $50,000 in home depot gift cards for youth-oriented gardening programs before year’s end. Five grantees will receive $1,000 gift cards, and 95 others will get $500 cards. Most non-profits, community and education organizations may apply. Applicants must plan to with at least 15 children between the ages of 3 and 18 in the coming year. While this specific grant is for the 2011 year, YGGP offers a new round of grants each year.

American Honda Foundation

Honda to Fund STEM & Environmental Education Initiatives

The Americann Honda Foundation is offering grants ranging between $20,000 and $60,000 annually for 501© (3) non-profits and both public and private schools. Youth education programs must be specifically focused on STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) and/or environmental subject matters. Eligible organizations can only apply once per year and must submit two-years of financial reports to be considered for the grant. Honda offers four deadlines throughout the year. The next is November 1, 2011.

Youth Service America and the Sodexo Foundation

$500 Grants for Youth-Led Hunger Initiatives

Youth Service America (YSA) and the Sodexo Foundation are awarding 25 Sodexo Youth Grants, totaling $500 each, in an effort to support youth-led service projects in conjunction with National Hunger & Homeless Awareness Week (Nov. 13-20, 2011). Applicants must be between the ages of 5 and 25 to qualify and the project idea must take place, at least in part, during National Hunger & Homeless Awareness Week. More than 17 million kids in the United States are at risk of hunger, according to the YSA, including the one in four children that rely on free or reduced-price school meal programs.
