Write a guest opinion essay

Thank you for considering writing a guest opinion essay for Juvenile Justice Information Exchange, a publication of the Center for Sustainable Journalism

JJIE and our affiliate site, Youth Today, are currently re-organizing their editorial and administrative staff.

  • We are not reviewing story pitches or guest editorial submissions at this time.

  • Please return to this page for updates after November 01.

Thank you for your interest, patience and continued support of JJIE and Youth Today.

HERE ARE OUR GUIDELINES:

Submitted opinion essays from guest writers make a factual argument that is based on the writer’s experience and expertise. They are crafted in a conversational tone that a broad array of readers can readily understand.

Along with your submitted essay, which generally should be 700 to 1,200 words long, please explain how your professional or personal background connects you with the subject you’re writing about.

Please be certain that your submission wholly represents your original work and properly credits the persons whose research you also may be citing as you make your persuasive argument.

Submissions that are chosen for publication will be rigorously fact-checked and edited in accordance with journalistic style and standards. Please include hyperlinks, parenthetical comments and so on that help confirm your assertions.

Given the considerable number of submissions we review, we may not be able to respond to everyone who submits. If you do not hear from us within 14 days, we understand that you may choose to submit your essay for consideration at a different publication.

Like most mainstream news organizations, we do not pay writers who submit guest opinion essays.
