Grant Hopes to Cut the Number of Kids Who Cut Class

The U.S. Department of Justice, Office of Justice Programs and the Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention offers the National Training and Technical Assistance Center for Truancy Prevention and Intervention program. This program provides development, training and resources that focus on kids who cut class and other issues. The focus is to try to prevent kids from dropping out of school. The deadline for this is July 11, 2011 at 11:59 P.M. E.S.T.

 

 

 

 

Geometry Grant Gives Kids Opportunities

The National Council of Teachers of Mathematics offers a grant to help improve students’ understanding of geometry. The grant is offered to help develop activities that will help kids like and understand geometry. This can be done through art, literature, music, nature and other relevant ways to get kids excited about geometry. The programs must be consistent with the Principles and Standards for School Mathematics of the National Council of Teachers and Mathematics and the applicant must also be a member of the council. The grant will award a maximum of $4,000  to teachers who teach pre K-8 grade level and focus on geometry content, the link between the geometry standard and the project's activities and the impact on learning.

Church Offers Grant for Kids

A Brighter Future for Children and Youth is a grant offered by the United Methodist Church. This grant offers up to $4,000 for projects and programs addressing kids between 5 and 18 in the areas of violence and abuse prevention. The average grant is about $2,500. Grants submitted in Spanish are accepted. The deadline for this grant is July 1, 2011.

Money for the Probation Census Project

The Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention, The Department of Justice, and the Office of Justice Programs offers grants for the Probation Census Project. This project helps the Department of Justice collect data and to establish national statistics on the number of kids in the nation who are on probation. This also helps gather information on the offices that help supervise kids on probation.  The deadline for this grant is 11:59 p.m., EST.  June 29, 2011.

The Street Outreach Grant

The Department of Health and Human Services, The Administration for Children and Families, The Administration on Children, Youth and Families, is offering the Runaway and Homeless Youth Street Outreach Program. The goal is to assist children who fall victim to exploitation and abuse on the streets. The objective is to increase the safety, wellbeing and self-sufficiency of homeless youth. This is accomplished by building connections with them so organizations can help provide for the child’s immediate physical needs while helping improve behavioral and psychological health for them. The deadline is June 24, 2011.

Grant to Assist Welfare of Kids

The American Legion of Child Welfare Foundation offers grants to programs that help kids in new and innovative programs. This grant looks for organizations that contribute to the physical, mental, emotional and spiritual welfare of kids.  The grants are awarded for one year and must be completed within the award year. The foundation requires the grants have the potential to help American children in more than one state. The deadline for this grant is July 15, 2011.  

Helping Kids with Substance Abuse Grant

The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration’s Center for Mental Health Services is offering grants for Expansion of the Comprehensive Community Mental Health Services for Children and their Families. The grants' purpose is development of a comprehensive strategic plan to improve and expand services provided by systems of care for kids. These systems will address substance abuse problems, serious emotional disturbances and families undergoing this pressure. The aim of this grant is to help reduce suicide attempts, enhance contact with police and to improve school attendance. The deadline for this grant is June 2, 2011.

Grant To Mentor Child Sexual Exploitation

The U.S. Department of Justice, Office of Justice Programs, and the Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention offers a grant for the 2011 Mentoring for Child Victims of Commercial Sexual Exploitation Initiative. This grant seeks to increase efforts to mentor kids who’ve been sexually exploited and to increase outreach to victims and provide services to them. The winner of the grant will be expected to develop strategies to recruit, train, support and maintain mentors to support and empower the victims. Deadline: June 6, 2011 11:59

Grant To Support Kids Wanting to go to College

The Lumina Foundation supports programs that benefit access to and help prepare kids for college. The goal is to focus on underserved populations, such as low-income students.  Lumina’s goal is to increase the rate of those in higher education rate in the United States to 60 percent. While the mission of the Lumina foundation is for access and success, the emphasis is on attainment of a degree.
