In America we are young, tired and traumatized. We are tired of validating our space, our existence and the reason why we should have a seat at the table. Youth are continuously ignored, dismissed and unheard. Stereotyping youth as “too young” or “not experienced enough” has been a consistent strategy to devalue the movements that we create. Youth are dying.
Across the youth justice community, the leadership and expertise of justice-involved youth remains untapped or is utilized in ways that disempower and mirror the exploitative systems that we, as advocates, seek to dismantle.
The Starbucks Foundation offers grants ranging from $10,000 to $30,000 each year for programs or services focused on youth between the age of 6 and 24. In the U.S., only 501(c)(3) non-profit are eligible. Proposals should focus on or include at least one of the following areas:
Youth active in the leadership of the organization. Telling stories of emerging young leaders. Building bridges between and among different youth communities.
